What LWG Gold-certified leather means

Green Aileré backpack with a laptop resting in the front compartment

Every Aileré bag begins with leather from tanneries certified Gold by the Leather Working Group. That is a short sentence for a long idea, so here is what it means.

A standard that audits the tannery

The Leather Working Group assesses tanneries on how they manage the things leather making touches: water, energy, chemicals and waste, and whether the leather can be traced back to its source. Gold is the highest rating.

Why we care

Honesty is one of our values, and it starts with what we use. A bag that looks good but hides where it came from is not the kind of tool we want to make. We would rather tell you about the leather and let you judge it.

What you will notice

The grain is natural, so each bag carries small differences you will not find on another. That is part of the material. It softens and settles with use.
